In January 2020 KCIL’s 12 week ‘Access to Art’ group started and was a welcome distraction from the cold winter weather. Towards the end of 2019 we invited our service users and members to come along and try something fun and creative. People did not need any artistic skills or experience to join the group just a willingness to be creative and meet new people.
There is lots of evidence that art making can be a relaxing and enjoyable pastime which can reduce feelings of stress and isolation whilst having a positive impact on general wellbeing. Our art group has proven popular with all the spaces filling up quickly.
The group is funded through The Royal Borough of Kingston’s Borough-wide Community Grants programme which were available to fund projects, activities and services to benefit the local community. Unfortunately due to the coronavirus our group had to be put on hold but hopefully we will be able to have our final sessions soon. Until then please enjoy some photographs from our time in the art room and some of the wonderful artwork created by members of the group!
