Amber Heat-Health Alert – Important Information

An Amber Heat-Health Alert is in place for London from 9:00am on 8 July 2026 until 9:00pm on 12 July 2026. Severe impacts are expected across health and social care services due to high temperatures.

Care providers should:

  • Review and follow their business continuity plans.
  • Complete local risk assessments for staff and people they support.
  • Identify individuals who may be more vulnerable to heat and take appropriate action.
  • Arrange additional welfare visits where needed to support resident safety.

Additional visits required due to the heatwave will be considered flexibly by RBK.

Staying Safe in Hot Weather

Remember to:

  • Keep homes cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms facing the sun.
  • Drink plenty of fluids and limit alcohol intake.
  • Check on people who may be at higher risk from heat.
  • Avoid direct sunlight where possible, especially between 11am and 3pm.
  • Wear suitable clothing, a hat and sunglasses, seek shade, and use sunscreen when outdoors.

Recognising Heat Exhaustion and Heatstroke

Heat exhaustion symptoms may include:

  • Tiredness or weakness
  • Feeling faint
  • Headache
  • Muscle cramps
  • Feeling or being sick
  • Heavy sweating
  • Intense thirst

Heatstroke is a medical emergency. Symptoms may include:

  • Confusion
  • Lack of coordination
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Fast breathing or shortness of breath
  • Hot skin that is not sweating
  • Seizures

If you suspect heatstroke, call 999 immediately and try to cool the person down.
