Mental Health Awareness Week 2024: Movement

Find your moments for movement. Mental Health Awareness Week

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and this year’s theme is ‘Movement: Moving More for Our Mental Health’.

The KCIL team finds that including movement in our week is a great way to support our mental health, from running, gardening, outdoor adventures, and walking the dog. How do you like incorporating movement into your day-to-day life? Looking for inspiration? Why not try one of these ideas?

parkrun

Did you know that the global institution that is parkrun started in nearby Bushy Park twenty years ago? parkrun is not just for runners; each route also includes a parkwalk, where you can join in and walk along the 5km route. Or why not walk-run (running for a bit, then walking for a bit), which can be a great way to introduce yourself to running or if you’re building your strength after illness or surgery. Many of the parkrun routes are on hard surfaces that are wheelchair accessible. With a fantastic community atmosphere and the opportunity to volunteer as a marshall, it’s a great way to get some fresh air on a Saturday morning (the 5km routes) or Sunday morning (the 2km Junior routes).

Local parkruns include –

Kingston parkrun

Bushy Park parkrun

Richmond Park parkrun

Nonsuch parkrun

parkrun Juniors

Latchmere Rec Junior parkrun

Bushy Juniors parkrun

Surbiton Juniors parkrun

Nonsuch Juniors parkrun
