The Impact of the Pandemic on the Disabled Community

The recent survey conducted by the BBC has brought to life the reality of how the pandemic has affected disabled people in the last 18 months. One of the biggest disability charities in the UK, Scope, has said the BBC’s findings “confirm the government’s failure to provide support for disabled people throughout the pandemic.” The statistics that have been produced and the real-life stories we have seen are harrowing and we must not turn our back as we move out of the pandemic.

The KCIL team have been working tirelessly (from home and the office) to support disabled people throughout this crisis running Befriending schemes and supporting people to use technology; and holding online coffee mornings to keep spirits up. We are now looking forward to taking groups out for our summer activities project to include Thames Boat trips and visits to Kew Gardens.
