SEND Independent Travel Trainer - Brent

Full Training will be provided via an accredited Level 2 Travel Trainer course.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Independent Travel Trainer to train young people with additional needs to learn to travel independently using public transport – buses, trains and the underground – across the London borough of Brent. Teaching SEND pupils road safety, building confidence and social skills.

This role may also suit someone looking to work AM & PM hours, training SEND children to travel independently on the morning and afternoon school run.

The Independent Travel Training programme is a valued part of the SEND travel assistance offer. The benefits of travel training go far beyond the remit of transportation, as the positive impacts are far reaching and lifelong.

The role involves flexible working with some early morning starts and occasional evenings. You will develop and deliver tailored travel plans promoting safety and wellbeing and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

To provide support and training for children with special educational needs to enable them to travel more independently to and from school or college, while ensuring their safety and wellbeing during their training. Working closely with SENCO’s and Travel Assistance officers.

To promote the Travel Training programme to local schools and colleges with the SEND Manager and CEO, raising awareness and creating a positive perception of this opportunity.

To assess the needs of prospective trainees. This may involve consulting with any relevant parent/carers and support workers, before deciding upon the most appropriate person-centred travel training plan.

To work with parents/carers to implement the travel training programme.

To keep detailed and accurate records of the service provided.

Write full reports which detail student progress.

Celebrate and promote the success stories.

To understand both Councils duties and responsibilities for safeguarding children, young people adults as they apply to the role within the council.

Person Specification

Strong communication skills

Familiarity with Salesforce and SharePoint platforms

Demonstrated mentoring abilities and presentation skills

Direct Payment Support Service Advisor – Kingston

The Kingston Direct Payment Advisor provides information, advice, and support to disabled people, people with complex health needs, and their carers who are or may be eligible for a Direct Payment from the Local Authority or NHS. The service supports them to find and recruit their own Personal Assistants (PAs), in line with the Care Act 2014, particularly Section 1 (Wellbeing Principle) and Section 26 (Direct Payment arrangements). 
 
Many people choose to receive a Direct Payment to manage their own care and support needs. Our role is to facilitate guided conversations about how they want to use their Direct Payment, provide advice on budgeting, and assist in recruiting and managing PAs, ensuring they are supported to be confident and effective employers. 
 
We promote co-production and value lived experience as a key part of service design and delivery. We also support safeguarding compliance, ensuring users are aware of adult and child protection policies relevant to their role as employers. 
 
Support is provided by telephone, email, online (Teams), and through in-person visits and training sessions. Referrals come from the Local Authority, and the NHS. 

Key Responsibilities

Promote the PA role within Kingston communities.

Arrange training for PAs and DP employers on being a good employer, infection control

Advise on budgeting, employment law, and responsibilities including safeguarding requirements.

Guide Direct Payment users through the process – setting up employers liability insurance

Recruitment Officer - Personal Assistants Support Service

The Recruitment Officer plays a vital role in supporting our Direct Payments contracts in Kingston for both adults and children, to enable disabled people, people with complex health conditions, and carers to recruit and retain suitable Personal Assistants (PAs). This role focuses on developing and managing a pool of skilled, values-driven PAs, facilitating the recruitment process, and ensuring alignment with personalisation, safeguarding, and the social model of disability. 
 
Working collaboratively with Local Authority and NHS teams, the Recruitment Officer ensures a responsive and person-centred recruitment offer. They promote the PA role locally, support candidates through onboarding, and help match them to Direct Payment recipients based on values, skills, and preferences. 

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a local pool of vetted Personal Assistants using internal systems and CRM databases.

Proactively advertise, promote and recruit new PAs via community engagement, digital outreach, and local events.

Screen, shortlist and conduct interviews to assess suitability, values alignment and employment readiness.

Work with DP Advisors and service users to match suitable PAs to individual employers based on skills, availability, and preferences.

Guide PAs through recruitment checks (e.g. DBS, right to work) and induction.

Maintain clear records of PA candidates, matches, and vacancies.

Attend job fairs, outreach events, and work with local job centres, colleges, and community groups.

Work collaboratively with the training team to identify PA training needs and schedule relevant sessions.

Promote safeguarding principles and ensure PA candidates are informed of employer responsibilities. 

Person Specification

Essential:

Have you worked in the recruitment agency sector? HR support, employability or customer-focused roles.

Strong understanding of values-based recruitment and commitment to equality and diversity.

Knowledge of the social care or voluntary sector.

Ability to work proactively and manage multiple recruitment campaigns.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Empathy and understanding of barriers faced by disabled people and carers.

Familiarity with safer recruitment and safeguarding procedures.

Strong IT skills including Excel, email, CRM and digital platforms.

Desirable:

Experience of working with Direct Payments or personal health budgets.

Knowledge of Kingston and its communities.

Experience of co-production or involving service users in recruitment.
