Safeguarding: the Personal Assistant's responsibilities
Personal Assistants (PAs) who have contact with vulnerable adults and children have a duty to report any safeguarding concerns, even if this breaks confidentiality with the person they are supporting. PAs have a duty to act promptly if they have any concern or suspicion that a child or adult who is vulnerable is being abused or is at risk of being abused, neglected or exploited.
PAs should –
- Be aware of local safeguarding contact details.
- Call the police and/or an ambulance where appropriate in situations where the abuse of the adult or child indicates an urgent need for medical treatment or where there is an immediate risk of harm.
- Keep a clear factual record of your concerns and any action taken.
