A Managed Account means:
- You still receive a Direct Payment from the council.
- But KCIL manages the money for you - including paying for your care and support costs.

You can choose a Managed Account if:
- You're eligible for Direct Payments.
- You want help managing the financial side of your care.
- You or your representative give clear consent.
Managed accounts are suitable for those who are unable to effectively manage their own funding, have experienced previous difficulties, encountered financial challenged, or have misused their direct payments.
KCIL will:
- Open a bank account dedicated to your care funding.
- Make sure your money is kept secure and separate.
- Provide you or your advocate with a welcome guide.
KCIL will:
- Receive your Direct Payment from the council into your bank account.
- Pay your Personal Assistant, support services, or care-related invoices.
To make sure your money is handled safely, KCIL uses a two-tier authorisation process:
- Every payment is reviewed and approved by two different KCIL staff members.
- This ensures payments are accurate, timely, and secure – with no risk of error or misuse.
- It also means payments can be made swiftly, without unnecessary delays.
- All payments and approvals are tracked for transparency.
You (or your representative) will receive:
- Regular account statements from KCIL.
- Clear information on what has been paid and why.
KCIL gives you a named advisor you can contact for:
- Help with understanding payments.
- Requests to change services or budgets.
- Questions about your account.
You can stop or change your Managed Account if:
- You choose to manage the money yourself.
- Your care needs change.
- Your Direct Payment funding ends.
KCIL will:
- Finalise your account.
- Return any unspent money to the council.
- Give you a summary of all transactions.
