Ann Macfarlane
“Well I was terrified because I’d never done anything like that before, and thinking of employing people, oh it was mind boggling. But we were determined then, I really got excited about the whole idea.”
Ann Macfarlane is one of Kingston’s pioneers when it comes to independent living and disability rights. Working with Jane Campbell back in the late 1980s, they proposed an independent living scheme to Kingston Council, and so started the successful journey towards direct payments in the Borough. Ann is the patron for Kingston Centre for Independent Living and remains a strong advocate in the community.
